Feb. 22 - Here's our hardware department floor manager Jon, looking large and in charge at the desk of our key machine's new home. As you can tell, it's nothing fancy yet and the best is yet to come for this area.

Feb. 22 - This was the old key machine area. Notice anything missing? A key machine, of course. Rabia from our seasonal department is making use of this space, taking care of some rugs. It's a bit out of the frame, but you can see our chief freelance merchandiser Doug making a cell phone call to his stockbroker in the background. Just kidding. We've got no idea who is on the other end of the line.

Feb. 20 - Here's Greg, one of our freelance remodelers telling us to "hang loose." You can't tell from this photo, but Greg isn't wearing jeans. It's about 30°F outside and he's still got shorts on. Maybe he thinks he's hanging loose in Hawaii?

Feb. 20 - We'd like to tell you that everything is in pristine condition during our remodel, but that wouldn't quite be true. Here's some paint products in need of some serious reorganization.

Feb. 20 - Our fix-it all-star Paul works on the area that will soon house our key machine. We'll spare you the pun of calling this a "key" area of the store. Ooops. Too late.

Feb. 20 - Here's our cashier Temey (L.) and Oscar (R.) from our paint department as they sweep what used to be the paint department floor. Oh if those floors could talk...

Feb 8 - We just uncovered a (sort of) historic bar of Dial soap. Since we used to date the merchandise on the price tags, we can tell it first hit the shelf in 1986. To give you an idea of just how much times have changed, Dial now makes a bar of soap with white tea and vitamin E. Don't believe us? Click here.

Feb. 8 - Here's our friend Rich Remson of Good Faith Contracting. He's weilding a sledgehammer, about to put a hurtin' on this wall that will become the hallway to our new staff lunchroom.

/uploads/s5/6i/s56iWGmQqeRmGDmoAP4qZw/Rohan_gadgets_Feb08_WEB.jpg

Feb 8 - That's Rohan from our IT Department seated on the stool. He's making sure all of products moved in the remodel are properly tagged. Since we have over 50,000 of them, we'd guess he's got about 35,000 to go. Yuck.

Feb. 4 - This is Julian behind what used to be the key machine area. We'll admit the machines are still there, but the folks in hardware now fondly refer to this area as the "Keyhole."

Feb. 1 - Here's Charlie, one of our best known and most valuable staffers. He's standing in front a a giant hole in the wall that will soon house our new key machine area.

Feb. 1 - Let's face it--the battleship gray color on our walls was about as exciting as doing your taxes. Thankfully we're changing that. Here's a hard working staffer from Quality Painting & Plastering Inc. applying Benjamin Moore's Aura paint to our walls in a hot color aptly named caliente.

Feb. 1 - Call the Smithsonian! We found this masonry finishing tool under one of our fixtures. It is labeled "Servistar." For dating purposes, the Servistar name disappeared over a decade ago and by looking at this sticker, we are estimating this tool to be about 25 years old.

Jan. 23 - This is a picture of our old key machine station. Our remodeling team has not touched it yet. Calling it cluttered would be kind, but to us, this is a work of art.
